Who We Are
This Privacy Policy applies to the Dance Arts mobile application and the Dance Arts website at dancearts-sdt.com, operated by Dance Arts, located at 2425 W. Marquette Woods Rd., Stevensville, MI 49127.
We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it. If you have questions, contact us at sarah@dancearts-sdt.com.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. This is used to identify you in the app, authenticate your account, and send you communications related to your classes and your children’s enrollment.
Children’s Information
The Dance Arts app is designed for parents to manage their children’s class enrollment. To use these features, you may provide your child’s name and date of birth. This information is associated with your parent account and is used only to organize class assignments within the app. We do not create separate accounts for children.
Enrollment Data
When you add a child to a class, we store which classes they are enrolled in. This is used to display relevant class information, schedule reminders, and targeted announcements from the studio and instructors.
Messages
The app allows parents to send direct messages to instructors and studio administrators. Message content is stored and associated with your account. Only you and the recipient can read these messages.
Push Notification Tokens
If you grant permission for push notifications, we store a push notification token issued by Apple or Google for your device. This token is used solely to deliver notifications from Dance Arts (such as announcements and class updates) to your device. We do not use it for advertising or share it with third parties.
Usage Information
We may collect basic usage data (such as which features are used) to improve the app. We do not use third-party analytics services that track you across other apps or websites.
How We Use Your Information
- To operate and maintain your account and your children’s enrollment records
- To display the correct class schedule, announcements, and content relevant to your enrolled classes
- To enable direct messaging between parents and studio staff
- To send push notifications about classes, studio announcements, and schedule changes (only if you opt in)
- To respond to your support requests or questions sent through the app or by email
- To improve the app based on how it is used
We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell your information or share it with third-party marketing companies.
Sharing of Information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to anyone. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: We use third-party services to operate the app (such as cloud hosting and push notification delivery via Expo’s notification service). These providers process data only on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Studio staff: Instructors can view messages you send to them and can see enrollment data for their own classes. Studio administrators have access to all account data necessary to manage the studio.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
Children’s Privacy (COPPA)
The Dance Arts app is designed for use by parents and guardians, not directly by children. Children do not create accounts or submit information themselves. Parents provide their children’s names and dates of birth to manage class enrollment.
We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. All children’s data in the app is submitted by a parent or guardian and is used only to provide the class management features of the app.
If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information directly without parental consent, please contact us at sarah@dancearts-sdt.com and we will promptly remove it.
Data Retention
We retain your account information and your children’s enrollment data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information and your children’s data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
Messages are retained until you or the studio deletes them. Push notification tokens are removed when you revoke notification permissions or delete your account.
Your Rights and Choices
Access and correction: You can view and update your account information at any time from within the app.
Notifications: You can turn off push notifications at any time from the app’s Settings > Notifications screen or from your device’s system settings.
Account deletion: You can delete your account from the app at Settings > Delete Account. This will remove your account information and your children’s data. Alternatively, email us at sarah@dancearts-sdt.com to request account deletion.
Data requests: To request a copy of your data or ask questions about how it is used, contact us at sarah@dancearts-sdt.com.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data in transit. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your personal information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of the page. For significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
